The Kutub al-Sittah, or "Six Books," are the collections of Hadith most widely relied upon by scholars for authenticity and scope. Together they represent decades of painstaking verification work.

Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are considered the most rigorously authenticated. The remaining four — Sunan Abu Dawud, Jami at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa'i, and Sunan Ibn Majah — expand the collection with additional narrations and areas of fiqh.

New students often try to read all six cover to cover. A better starting point is a themed study — picking a topic like prayer or character, and reading how each collection addresses it.
